Five steps to kick start your bowel

Make sure you aim to drink at lest two litres of water a day to assist the fibre in your food to stimulate the gut.

Although small doses of caffeine stimulates the small muscles of the intestine to contract ( which can help to alleviate short term constipation) too much can dehydrate the body making the problem worse. two to three cups a day should be the maximum.

Exercising regularly to tone up our body. including bowel muscles. wenty minutes hree times a week is something to aim for.

Pulses, wholegrain foods, fruit and vegetables all contain fibre and if the aim to eat five portions a day seems too much. Remember one option could be making a smoothie or fresh juice from four pieces for a achievable and tempting boost.
