Homeopathy for babies and children with common complaints

Coughs, colds, sleeping problems, nappy rash, asthma, bed wetting, dummies, feeding problems, travel sickness, lack of confidence reading and writing difficulties

Homeopathy is a safe natural way of treating your baby or young child, using diluted natural extracts, usually of plant, or mineral origin. These provide a safe gentle stimulus to health.
Homopathy deals with the whole person, but what is most important, it deals with the psychological needs of the individual child. Its guiding principle is treating "like with like"; or choosing a remedy which in its original form was capable of causing symptoms similar to those the child may be experiencing in the present illness.

Homeopathy supports the younger mother who wants more initiative and more involvement in the treatment of the family. It provides an independent approach to the health problems of her child providing a safe method which supports the subtle energies responsible for the resistance and health of the child.

All hypnosis is self hypnosis

Hypnotherapy is a therapy using hypnosis not only to alleviate symptoms but also to uncover the root cause of the problem which can be corrected thus ensuring a complete and permanent cure. Because hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation your subconscious, which is the controller of all your automatic processes and reactions, can be contacted, we are able through suggestion help you make the changes you want to make.

The subconscious is enormous and very little is known about it, except that it contains all your emotions, and your emotions you do not control. So if you have a conflict between the conscious which contains your reason and logic and your subconscious which contains your emotions, your emotions will always win. If you have a psychosomatic disorder (a problem of the subconscious) the reason and logic part of the brain will be overridden by the emotional part of the brain, this is the reason why many people with say the fear of flying know it is one of the safest ways to travel but will say “I cannot help myself”.

All hypnosis is self hypnosis; it has to be, because it happens in your mind. It works through suggestion. When a child is born that child is born with a blank mind. And as he grows up he is subjected to suggestion from many areas of his life, be it from parents, teacher, family, friends even environment. And it is these suggestions and experiences which have an effect and influence on adult life.

By using suggestion we are able to reprogramme the brain in much the same way you would reprogramme a faulty hard drive in a computer. The brain consists of what we call units of mind power, and these units are scattered throughout the brain. In an ordinary state only a few of these units are affected by suggestion. In hypnosis all the units are focused together and are all affected.

Where did hypnosis originate from

AmazinglightingstormWhen we understand what hypnosis is we will find that hypnosis has been around in some form since time began, for instance animals when hibernating will turn inwards and are able to exist for long periods without sustenance, the caveman staring into the fire, his focus of attention is narrowed down to the flames flickering in the darkness of the cave which cause him to go into a trance like state.

No one really knows for certain when the actual practice of hypnosis started, although the earliest written references to the use of hypnosis date back to the times of the Egyptian sleep temples and Greek religious centres where people came for help with their problems.

The word Hypnosis comes from the Greek word Hypnos which means sleep, though the actual state of hypnosis is very different from sleep.
Hypnosis is a natural state of mind which we experience every day and many times during the day, if ever you have sat down to relax and watch your favourite TV programme, then you have experienced hypnosis, you become engrossed on what is happening on the TV to the point where you start to become less aware of what is happening around you, you shut it out. You may even reach a deeper level of hypnosis as you start to “nod off” but you can still hear what is being said, and should anything happen unexpectedly you would simply open your eyes.

Hypnosis is that gap between wake and sleep, no one just suddenly falls asleep, we all go through a gradual process of drifting down into sleep where we enter what is called the Hypnopompic State and when we wake up we gradually drift up from sleep through the Hypnogogic State.

EFT

Istock_000005105610smallThis process is like acupuncture but without the needles, and is a simple procedure that stimulates well established meridian points on your body by tapping them with your fingers.

The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system.
Therefore EFT can quickly and safely rebalance the energy systems remove blockages, that may have been causing stress, anxiety, fear etc or physical symptoms related to emotions or experiences.

Travelling Tips

PlaneAs the weather improves and the holiday season comes round again, aim for a healthy as well as happy holiday. Reduce the risk of stomach upsets, sunburn and even blood clots by applying the following guidelines.

Tummy troubles:
Exposure to foreign food, water and hygiene can easily upset the natural balance of gut flora. To minimise risks, eat foods rich in probiotic bacteria including live natural yoghurt, miso paste and pickled vegetables. Also ensure a good supply of prebiotic bacteria from leeks, garlic, onions, bananas and rye.
A good quality probiotic supplement is also advisable. Buy one that doesn’t need to be stored in the fridge.

Sunburn soreness:
In addition to a good quality sun cream, eat tomatoes-rich in lycopene, an antioxidant which helps protect the skin from sun damage; beta-carotene found in orange fruit and vegetables and vitamin C, all help keep skin supple and soft.

Water warnings:
To remain hydrated in the sun, aim for at least 2 litres of water daily. Bottled water is advisable in many resorts but keep out of the sun as the heat can cause leakage of plastic chemicals into the water. Avoid ice in drinks and limit alcohol and high sugar fruit drinks.

Beware of blood clots
Deep Vein Thrombosis is a risk if flying or travelling for several hours as it can cause the blood to thicken and pool. Drink plenty of water; move about frequently, wear support tights if on a long haul flight. Try pine bark and grapeseed extract as these aid circulation.

Vaccinations

TincturesWith the exception of yellow fever vaccination, which is an essential requirement for certain countries, vaccinations are not compulsory - it is up to you to decide what is appropriate for your circumstances. An aid worker going to a refuge camp in Africa for three months is more likely to require a rabies vaccination than a businessman spending three days in a well appointed hotel in the capital city. It has been estimated that the great majority of travellers illnesses are not preventable by vaccines - they are more likely to be avoided by adopting the types of measures outlined above, and by maintaining high standards of personal hygiene. Some vaccines are more effective than others - cholera vaccine gives very little protection, and is no longer recommended. Both the short and no longer term side effects of each vaccine need to be considered in marking your decisions.

If you prefer to have the recommended vaccinations, it is important to start the course well before travelling, and space the injections out so that your immune system has had a chance to recover before you go. Some travellers prefer to make sure that they are in good health before departure by ensuring a good diet, and plenty of exercise, and having constitution homeopathic treatment where appropriate.

What is reiki

ReikiPeople vibrate at a much lower rate than sound and light which is how we come to form into tangible physical matter. It is possible to feel the benefits of sound and light even though we cannot touch them. Following this principle, reiki works at a higher vibration again and one receives it, it has the power to cleanse an individual's energy fields- moving the denser energy blockages out of their system

lightening
them up.

Reiki is non-invasive, the recipient remains fully clothed and no special circumstances are necessary to receive a treatment. Once a person is trained into the energy, they are able to access this healing energy whenever they wish.

Many people feel more positive, energetic and generally better after a treatment. It is empowering and liberating, and being attuned into reiki offers the individual the opportunity to take responsibility for their own well being. In society where many people feel they have lost control over their own lives, reiki provides a useful and effective tool for personal development.

Women and heart disease

Istock_000005460890xsmallA report out today highlights the concern that the rate of drop in heart disease amongst women under fifty appears to have reached a plateau for the first time since the 1970's.

The worry is this figure could start to rise in the coming years if obesity and diabetes continue to be such problems. These conditions have risen amongst younger people over the past ten years due to poor diet and lack of exercise.

In order to help reverse this trend, younger women need to focus on eating healthy, well balanced diet, avoiding smoking, limiting alcohol and increasing exercise.

Babies – natural born yogis?

Pict0001At first the idea of babies performing yoga can seem quite unusual and perhaps a little odd. Although it is true babies cannot perform physical postures independently or practice meditation they do naturally possess many yogic attributes that can take adults years to master.

Deep Yogic Breathing (i.e. from the abdomen)
If you watch a baby breathing you will see the whole of the abdomen rising and falling with each in breath and out breath not just the chest, and so enabling air to be brought into the lowest part of the lungs. Most adults in comparison breathe quite shallowly and only use a fraction of their lung capacity. Deep yogic breathing is simple to learn and so effective at calming and relaxing - yet adults have to be taught this while babies do this instinctively.

Tai Ch Chuan for health.

There are many theories as to where and when Tai Chi originated but the most popular of these is that of Chang San-Feng. He was a Taoist priest around the Yuan dynasty 1279-1368 living at Mol-Don mountain and was practicing Chinese alchemy searching for the elixir of life when the Emperor of the time sent a messenger to ask Chang for his assistance in bringing law and order to the area. Somehow the messenger never arrived. But in a dream Chang dreamed that the preceding emperor had shown him the fist method. And so the story goes on to state that Chang left the mountain and killed over one hundred bandits who had been threatening the area. From then on it has been passed down from master to pupil, each pupil then developing and refining the forms until today we have many different forms of Tai Chi. The main ones today being Chen, Yang, Wu and Sun.

So what are the benefits of practicing Tai Chi?

If we look at good health on two levels; the mind and the body. We know that the mind influences the body and vice versa the body can influence the mind. We know that Psychosomatic illness (problems in the mind) cause such thing as ulcers, asthma, colitis just to name a few of the bad effects of the mind on the body. But a strong robust body always has a good effect on the mind. So when the mind and body are in harmony, good health results.

What is accupuncture?

Acupunture is a system of healing which has been practised in China and other Eastern countries for thousand of years.
Although often described as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat people with a range of illness. Its focus is on improving the overall well being of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms.

According to traditional chinese philosophy, our health is dependant on the body's motervating energy- known as Qi - moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels beneath the skin. Qi consists of equal and opposite qualities - yin and yang - and when these become unbalanced, illness may result. By inserting fine needles into the chanels of energy, an acupuncturist can stimulate the bodys own healing response and help restore its natural balance. The flow of Qi can be disturbed by a number of factores. These include emotional states such as greif, poor nutrition, weather conditions, hereditary factors, infections, poisons and trauma.

The principal aim of acupuncture in treating the whole person is to recover the equilibrium between the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the individual.

what massage is what?

SPORTS INJURIES This treatment include a full examination and assessment of the injured area and associated supporting structures, including muscle or joint testing.

A treatment plan will then be devised according to the needs of the client, which may include strapping, taping, application of ice and heat packs, rehabilitation massage and the use of ultrasonic equipment to reduce muscular pain and spasms and to aid the healing of injured tissue.

Deep Tissue is a firm massage using deeper pressure and a variety of techniques, including stretching, to break down scar tissue, release pain, improve flexibility, help prevent injury and reduce muscle tension, particularly in the neck and shoulders, which can be caused by bad posture or stress and overuse of muscles.

THERMAL STONE MASSAGE A deeply relaxing treatment using heated basalt stones to massage the body. The heat induces muscular relaxation to release deep-seated physical and emotional tension, improving circulation and removing toxins. This can relieve stress, depression, PMT and can help improve joint mobility.

SPORTS MASSAGE This tends to be more intense than regular massage. The main purpose is to alleviate the stress and tension that builds up in the body's soft tissues during exercise. Massage can speed the healing process and prevent niggling injuries that could affect performance. This treatment is equally suited to either a athlete or the casual sports enthusiast.
